THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SLEEP DURATION AND BLOOD PRESSURE IN THE ADULT POPULATION

Aim: The aim of this research was to explore the association between subjectively reported sleep duration and blood pressure (BP).Methods: The measured BP values were compared with 7-day records of sleep duration in the population of adults aged 19-72 years (n = 126). Additional information about sleep was obtained through the questionnaire method.Results: Sleep < 6.9 h was associated with a significantly higher diastolic BP (median 90.2 mm Hg) compared to subjects sleeping 7-7.9 h (median 85.0 mm Hg) and > 8 h (mean 83.8 mm Hg), P = 0.006.
