The author's intention is to review the issue of quality of life and its measurement in postmenopausal women. During menopause, women exhibit symptoms affecting their existing lifestyle as well as the quality of their life. The physiological process of menopause affects all women at around fifty years of age with rapid and targeted assistance to these women being a priority for climacteric medicine. At present, Czech clinical practice does not make use of standardized methods in order to assess the quality of life for women after menopause. The use of specific standardized questionnaires assessing the health related quality of life (including menopausal symptoms) contributes to an increase in the quality of care provided to women after menopause. The author provides an overview of certain standardized instruments for measuring the quality of life related to health in postmenopausal women. A number of these standardized methods could be used in Czech clinical practice as part of targeted testing of women with estrogen deficiency symptoms.
