Background: Clinical exercises of nursing students represent the basis of quality preparation for the profession of nurse. We were interested in students' opinions on the organization and course of clinical exercises, as well as their evaluation of the role of mentor.

Aim: To analyze the evaluation of clinical exercises from the point of view of a nursing student and to find out the preferred learning style of students.

Methods: The methods and design of the exploratory study were applied using two questionnaires. The first was a validated and standardized Kolb style learning questionnaire and the second was a self-designed questionnaire focused on the evaluation of clinical exercises. In both questionnaires the Likert scale was used to provide opinions.

Results: The survey showed that the most preferred learning style for first and second year students was the active style - accommodation (75%), in the third year assimilator (32.43%). In clinical exercises, students prefer the approach of health professionals to them and the atmosphere in the workplace over the material and technical equipment. The mentor values professional knowledge, skills and experience the most.

Conclusions: The results of the survey indicate that clinical exercises are of key importance to students in the process of preparing them for the profession of nurse, with the mentor being an indispensable person during clinical exercises.
