Aim: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic progressive disease typically accompanied with impairment of joint function and with restriction of the patients physical activity. Functional disability is one of the most important consequences of rheumatoid arthritis. The aim of empirical correlation research study was to analyze and compare correlations between the variables studied (clinical) and to assess self-care capacity.
Methods: In the sample of 100 respondents statement value and reliability of chosen questionnaires was tested by HAQ-DI as standardized instruments of physical disability. Patients' subjective statements have been compared with objective clinical data.
Results: The strongest correlations were proved in the relation between activities of daily living and compensatory device, activities of daily living and patient categorization to the functional class. Non-significant correlations were proved in the relation between activities of daily living and clinical symptomatology considering interindividual variability of symptomatology and inflammatory activity fluctuation.
Conclusion: Reliable instruments used in clinical practice help to objectify patient's functional status. Specific instrument Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index has optimal statement value and prognostic significance for the patient.
