The aim of our work was to determine the degree of burden in caregivers. We further found out what the statistical significant differences in the burden of a caregiver are from the point of view of gender, age, length of care, living structure, and from the point of view of the self-sufficiency of the person cared for, by means of the ADL and IADL tests. The caregiver burden was measured by the Caregiver Burden Interview Instrument for Family Caregivers. The sample was made up of 70 respondents who provided care for family members. Based on an analysis of the data obtained, we discovered that the majority of respondents have a moderate burden (41%). We found out significant statistical differences in the burden of a caregiver from the point of view of the self-sufficiency of the person cared for (using ADL and IADL tests) and from that of the gender of the caregiver. The identified levels of caregiver burden can be a starting point for the adequate planning of care interventions carried out by a nurse from a home care agency, and can contribute to a better understanding of the need to use various sources of help.
